One of Norway’s most successful clubs in recent years.
Strømsgodset Toppfotball, known as Strømsgodset or simply Godset, is a Norwegian football club from Drammen. Known It is the elite football section of the multi-sports club Strømsgodset IF, which also contains sections for handball and bandy, along with a large youth football organisation.
Godset play their home games at the 8,935-capacity Marienlyst Stadion, although locals are more likely to call it Gamle Gress. The stadium, which has also been used to host several Norway U-21 international matches, features artificial turf and safe standing behind one of the goals. The club was founded in 1907, but it wasn’t until the late 1960s when the football team first won anything of note. The club are well known in England due to several matches against British clubs in European competition over the years. After a turbulent decade, Strømsgodset survived a threat of bankruptcy in 2005 and went on to win the Norwegian Cup and the league title, making them one of the more successful clubs in recent years.
