Since 2005, Aalesund have played their home games in the smart 10,778-capacity Color Line Stadion. It was the first top flight stadium in the country to use artificial turf, something which is now commonplace throughout the Norwegian league. Prior to 2005, AaFK played at the Kråmyra Stadion. With a massive increase in attendances and consistent performances on the pitch, the move has been seen as a major success.
The stadium has hosted the home games of the women’s side Fortuna Aalesund since 2009, and regularly hosts major concerts and music festivals throughout the summer.
How to get here
The Color Line Stadion is located on the waterside, approximately 2km east of central Ålesund. It is about a 25-minute walk from the Ålesundet sound that cuts through the city centre.
Unfortunately for international football fans, Norwegian no longer run direct flights from London Gatwick to Aalesund. KLM operate connections from Amsterdam, while Wizz Air fly from Gdańsk in Poland and Kaunas in Lithuania. Both SAS and Norwegian operate several daily flights from the Norwegian capital Oslo, which is the most common way for international football fans to arrive.
Where to stay
The stadium’s location within walking distance of the central district means most Ålesund hotels are good choices for a visit to the Color Line Stadion. The closest hotels are the Scandic Scandinavia, Scandic Parken, First Hotel Atlantica, and the Ålesund Vandrerhjem hostel.
